A DVD/CD set documenting a historic November 1981 concert at which blues legend Muddy Waters was joined by most of The Rolling Stones‘ members released on July 10. Muddy Waters & The Rolling Stones Live at the Checkerboard Lounge Chicago 1981 features Waters performing a set of blues classics with Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Stones touring pianist Ian Stewart sitting in on several numbers.
The story behind the show was that The Stones were touring the U.S. at the time, and during a night off, they noticed that Waters had a concert scheduled at his Chi-town club, so they decided to drop by the venue. During the show, Waters called the British rockers up on stage to play with him. Also joining in the action that evening were fellow blues greats Buddy Guy and Junior Wells.
Among the songs played at the gig were “Baby Please Don’t Go,” “Hoochie Coochie Man,” “Mannish Boy” and “Got My Mojo Working.” The DVD/CD release will mark the first time that this performance, long a popular bootleg item, will be officially available for purchase. The audio has been remixed and remastered by longtime Stones studio engineer Bob Clearmountain.
