The Dave & Deke Combo: Moonshine Melodies (2009) MP3/Flac

As hillbilly revivalists, these guys were really unmatched, and this mix of original tunes and novelty covers is so straightforward and on the mark that it's irresistable. Heck, anyone who covers the Farmer Boys is alright in my book. However this album doesn't quite capture the full scope of Deke's dazzling deeds on the gee-tar... guess you'll have to catch him live for that little treat.
The Dave & Deke Combo, a band of Los Angeles country rockabillies, consist of three Midwest transplants -- leaders Dave Dickerson and Deke Stuckey, plus drummer Lance -- and only one West Coast native, bassist Shorty. After releasing several 7" singles and an EP, the group's album debut, Moonshine Melodies, appeared in 1993 on the British label No Hit Records. After moving to Heyday in 1995, the Dave & Deke Combo released Hollywood Barn Dance the following year.   ****
