Horny Horns part 1!! A blow for me, a toot for you.

certainly one of the best p-funk jazz flavoured lp ever made, fred wesley and maceo parker at their peak, putting their horns together to play with their friends bootsy, phelps collins, richard "kush" griffiths and of course george clinton who is on the playground as a co-producer and a background vocalist.

all the tracks are true killers, with big fat basslines, blowing horns and crazy drumbreaks and we can really feel the true pleasure all the players had to be together in the studio and the pleasure that fred and maceo had in this time to be liberated from james brown's "tiranny" (okay the word is a bit hard with the GFOS, but almost true!!).

you can find a good review of the lp and the complete line-up

Horny Horns part 2!! say blow by blow backwards.

two years after the previous one this is another masterpiece from fred wesley and maceo, as you can hear they are still enjoying to play with their friends.

you should better focus on four of the tracks, which are monstruously groovy ( "circular motion" with a nice dialogue between fred and maceo, "half a man" a chanted tune in a parliament style, the main title "say blow by blow backwards" which features an amazing maceo's sax solo and, last but not least a great p-funk track "we came to funk ya") and forget the remixes, i don't really like them and the added beats are quite anachronic regarding to the rest of the lp, but maybe it's a style you will like.

nice review and complete line up .

Horny Horns part 3!! The final blow

not the best of the three but interesting and rare enough (i have only discovered it a few days ago!!) to be shared here.

it contains unreleased tracks and different covers of songs taken from the previous recording sessions, and modern remixes which are not really useful, but there's still a good groove on tunes like "lickity split", "fallen edge" and "cookie monster" and fred wesley's trombone solos are amazing as usual!

nice review and complete line up .

the last track "bells" is missing, if someone has a complete cd rip, please share it in the comments section, as well as your replies!!
