JazzTimeUSA: Best of Bob Thiele's Classic Jazz Sessions (1952-1955) MP3/Flac

This now-rare double LP contains live performances compiled by Leonard Feather and produced by Bob Thiele from a wide variety of groups. Violinist Stuff Smith jams on "Honeysuckle Rose", Jackie Paris sings "You Go to My Head", tenor-master Coleman Hawkins brings warmth to "Time on My Hands" and there are individual features for organist Milt Buckner, the forgotten organist/vocalist Sarah McLawler, clarinetist Tony Scott, Oscar Pettiford (on cello), flutist Jerome Richardson, pianist Billy Taylor and pianist Mary Lou Williams. In addition there are more extended performances from the Terry Gibbs Orchestra (featuring pianist Horace Silver, trumpeter Howard McGhee and Don Elliott on mellophone and vibes), tenor Georgie Auld's All-Stars (with trumpeter Charlie Shavers, trombonist Kai Winding, Elliott and Scott) and trumpeter/vocalist Hot Lips Page. The recording quality is good and the musicians all seem pretty inspired. ~ Scott Yanow
